I agree that "dying in peace" is a very good thing. But in this case, where we're dealing with a feeding tube rather than artificial respiration or other "life support", is there a distinction between "allow to die" and "cause to die"?
Not picking a fight -- just putting my major to use and pondering the question.

One of the things that bobs around in my head about this case is the thought that to claim the death penalty to be crueal and unusual punishment believe that starving to death is perfectly fine. Won't it be more humane to give her a lethal injection?
My wife also pointed out that if our next baby wasn't everything we had hoped for after birth, would it be alright to refuse the baby food? The baby cannot speak for her/himself and we all assume to know that by the world's standards that if the baby just isn't performing and accomplishing goals based on the expert books of the day, well, most likely they will be doomed to a dismal and hopeless life. Kind of like the baby girls in China...
